When Grandmother's Video was opened in 1979 by owner David Blewette,
there were few other video companies serving the Akron community. Since
those early days, we have built a reputation of experience and quality.
Over the years, we have worked with many well known Akron businesses.
Our services have been requested for many Akron events, including the
annual First Night celebration, and the openings of Inventure Place, the
John S. Knight Center, and the AES building.
Visitors to our studio are greeted by a growing collection of antique
televisions and TV memorabilia. Over the past few decades, David Blewette's
collection has caught the attention of numerous museums, news papers,
and television shows. More about this memory-triggering collection can
be found on our Memorabilia and Press
pages.
David Blewette and other videographers at Granny's have produced award
winning videos. Going back to his college years, David helped produce
music and image montages long before the rise of music videos. David is
still active in the experimental local productions with his program, "It
Came From Akron." The companion website to this program can be found
at www.TheBlimp.org.
Of course, the question most people ask us is, "where did you get
the name?" When David was trying to find a name for his new video
production business, Blewette (Blew It) Videos was not really an option.
His mother, who loaned him the last bit of money that he needed to open
the studio, had recently become a grandmother. So he named his production
company in her honor... and, by the way, he did pay back the loan.
